SUBJECT: Recommended Plate Mounting Procedures for Xymid Print Sleeves.

OBJECTIVE: Optimize the bond between plates and print sleeves, minimizing or eliminating air pockets and plate lift.

ISSUE: Due to the expansion and contraction that occurs when sleeves are installed or removed from base cylinders, compressive strains may cause undesired buckling between the plates and mounting tape.

SOLUTION: Optimize the bond.  This can be achieved using the following procedure.

1) Properly prepare mounting surfaces. Using a blend of 50% Water and 50% Isopropyl Alcohol, clean the mounting surface of the sleeves and the plates. The use of common solvents may leave a residue that is undesirable in promoting adhesion. 

2) Select a high tack adhesive mounting tape. Mounting tapes are available in a wide range of adhesion levels. In most instances, 3M “H” series or Lohman DuploFLEX Ultra series tapes offer an appropriate level of adhesion.

3) Use Plate Sealers. The use of plate sealers can also reduce the potential for plate lift.  They will also reduce the potential for solvents or liquids getting under the plate which can weaken the bond.
